Best New Bathrooms Ideas

SOFT SIMPLICITY

At a sleek Hamptons house designed by Amy Lau, the master bathroom has a Wetstyle tub with a Dornbracht faucet.

MODERN ZEN

"The threat of doing a modern bathroom is that it can feel cold," says Pamela Butz, who remodeled this house near Boston with partner Jeffrey Klug. Their solution was a design that errs on the side of simplicity, but with beautiful, natural materials that "speak for themselves."

REPURPOSED WALLPAPER

Framed fragments of Gracie's Georgian Tea Trade background have the effects of landscape paintings at a South Carolina home's powder room. The dressing table is a classic console that is converted.

FRESH CITRUS

The powder area's existing citrus-yellow background in this colorful home appears much fresher with the addition of a window color in a chartreuse-yellow silk, trimmed in Barbara Barry's Tang Tassel -- both by Krave.

BRAVE BLACK

An Alexander McQueen skull pillow was the catalyst for this daring en suite bathroom in Chicago's trendy Wicker Park area. "I wanted drama!" Says designer SuzAnn Kletzien, who notes that placing a contemporary, jewelry-inspired chandelier over a claw-foot bath "definitely satisfied that desire."

GLAMOROUS COPPER

Initially the owners were going to add a master suite, but they then looked up and recognized that the third-floor attic, with its peaked roof and exposed beams, introduced an unusual opportunity. "The very first thing we shopped for was that bathtub," states Chicago-based designer Julia Buckingham. "It is the crown jewel."
